It’s Complicated Vol. I

It’s Complicated Vol. I is my first mix in the It’s Complicated series. As explained in music minded manic; relationships and all the drama that goes with it, It’s just Complicated.

Many people refer to the It’s Complicated term as a relationship that is anything but love—such as sex, money, or some other type of benefit. However, I think that most would agree with me that a complicated relationship filled with mixed emotions that work their way to the forefront, brings about anger, sorrow, or regrets due to lies and distrust, mainly because one or the other has found someone else they’d rather be with and not sure of whether to stay in it or leave. Or, in another case wants his or her cake and eat it too. Some other causes in complicated relationships are due to a breakdown in communication, incompatibility, and jealousy. In addition to that one of the two is no longer willing to give 100% of their devotion.

Just as the lyrics suggest with all of these issues, love is prevalent and still an integral part of the relationship and in some cases supersedes all else—in spite of…

As you can see from the track titles, something ain’t right! This is what the It’s Complicated mix series is all about, and it’s just one of many to follow so keep looking out for them as I have discovered songs that delve right into ALL THAT!

I’m feeling the Rock and Soul collaboration on tracks 2-5!

As always, listen to the lyrics and ENJOY!

SeXXXy Love Vol. II

You are in for a throwback treat!

These pictures were taken with my Kodak Easyshare, a few months before my Nikon D40X Christmas gift. Good times with that Easyshare!! I still use it for video recording and it’s been doing a great job thus far. I actually prefer it over my newer Samsung model to video record performances because the sound is so much better.  I’ve upgraded to something that encompasses great sound, along with exceptional video quality and now I’m looking forward to the big time!

Choklate performed at SOB’s in NYC in 2007 where Eric Roberson still hosts Sol Village every third Wednesday of the month or so. Choklate was the first artist to kick off the ONUTSS phenomenon, and the first artist featured on the SeXXXy Love Vol. II mix!  The additional photos are from other music events I attended, where the artists are also featured on this mix I wanted to share.

By now, you know that my SeXXXy Love mixes showcase just what the title suggests–SeXXXy and Love. Listen to the lyrics and most definitely ENJOY with the one you love–or lust!!

2. Come Over – Cheryl Pepsi Riley
3. Fantasy (Spending Time) – Will Downing
4. I Wanna Make Love – Peven Everett

Liv Warfield and The NPG Hornz

Attention all Prince fans!!

Last month Arsenio Hall dedicated his show to Prince in addition to a few extra added attractions! If you watched the show in its entirety you had the absolute pleasure of witnessing Ms. Liv Warfield’s energy unfold right before your eyes. Joined by background singers Ashley Seamster and Saeeda Wright, they brought the house down with the NPG (New Power Generation) Hornz!

Liv Warfield and the gang performed at NYC’s BB King’s Blues Club Sunday, April 6th, 2014 and tore that stage up! The way Liv sashayed so gracefully across the BB King’s stage, with her head bowed, gave the audience the feeling that the show we were about to experience was definitely going to be The Unexpected! Liv blew the audience away with her beautiful voice, her, toned body, and the definition on those guns, please stop!! Liv was just breathtaking!

Learn a bit more about Liv via this interview before the show!

I didn’t get any video footage, however here is a lil taste…

After seeing Liv at the J & R Music Fest in the summer of 2007,  ONUTSS was extremely excited to receive a call a few months later asking us if we could host a listening party for her–we ecstatically accepted!

ONUTSS was introduced to Liv when she performed at the J & R Summer Music Festival in 2007.  We miss you J & R Music World!!

Although I had seen Liv at the J & R Music Festival her performance at the ONUTSS listening party totally took me by surprise. Deep down inside Liv is a Rocker Chick, who possesses the power to turn on her soft side and then bring the fire to heat up the song that has a Rock appeal and I love it!!

Soul Factory Presents…

I had been trying to get to a Soul Factory Presents event ever since I’d heard about the organization, when their debut showcase included Darien and Choklate in 2012. I regretfully missed this show. Being one of the co-founders of ONUTSS (One Nation Under The Soul Shack), we had the honor of presenting Darien and Choklate, (who was the first artist ONUTSS presented) so I really wanted to be there.

If you are close to the New York area, love good music, (regardless of whether or not you’ve heard of the artists) and haven’t attended a Soul Factory Presents, now is the time!! Stay tuned for the next showcase May 2014!!

The Soul Factory Presents has presented the most talented artists in the indie soul business; some I know (from ONUTSS days), some I know of and some I don’t but know that they must possess a special musical gift, otherwise they would not have graced a Soul Factory stage!

Well, around August 2013, the Soul Factory Presents announced they were going to present Bradd Marquis’ album release party for “Thank You”, along with special guests Lamone and Laura Jane. So Detrel (ONUTSS co-founder) and I spoke about the event and decided we really needed to attend and I’m so happy we did. Life had kept us away from the soul scene and this was the time we were able to get our schedules together and make it happen. We were truly excited to see Bradd and Lamone on the same stage as ONUTSS had also presented them a few years ago on separate occasions.

The energy was high and it felt good to be in the same room as many of our soul family we hadn’t seen in quite some time. The smiles, the hugs, the live music–missed all of this!

Needless to say, we had a fantastic time!
